Born in Montreal to English painter, Edward Eaton and Chinese mother, Grace; recent research supplied birth year; left Montreal to be journalist in Jamaica at 20; assumed Japanese identity and name Onoto Watanna in order to write best-selling Japanese romances; lived in Chicago and New York; married and divorced journalist Bertrand Babcock; accompanied second husband, Frank Reeve, to ranch near Morley, Alberta, 1917; moved to Hollywood where she was story editor of Universal Studios and screenwriter, 1924-1931; returned to live with husband, who had become successful in oil, in Calgary. // Cowboy novel set in the Calgary region.
